Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Approve gas cost, revenue, cash , bad debt and asset management journal entries, perform related control checks and significant analyses reviews
  • Assist in the preparation/review of documentation and work papers associated with the calculation of the cost of gas and GSA (gas cost adjustment) component of the purchased gas adjustment factor, knowledge of all components of the cost of gas calculation and the proper handling of each
  • Explain revenue/gas cost variations for management, including reports, price volume analysis, etc.
  • Handle assignments associated with revenue/gas costs and asset management, including: external/internal auditor requests, Public Service Commission (PSC) data requests, American Gas Association (AGA) surveys, degree day analysis, tax estimates, FERC reporting, EIA reporting, etc.
  • Support on-going development of the software via ITS as needed to meet functional and reporting needs for gas accounting and asset management groups
  • Manage the asset management monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, including depreciation, ARO calculations, reconciliations, reporting, AFUDC, variance explanations, etc.
  • Manage the capital budget process
  • Provide reports related to capital expenditures and provide data used by the management including the Capital Review Committee
  • Manage daily and monthly cash processes including balancing and reconciliations.
  • Provide forecasts for cash, accounts receivable, bad debt, revenue/gas and capital
  • Ensure revenue/gas/cash/bad debt controls and related documentation are in place and tested in compliance with SOX 404
  • Prepare annual departmental business plan and update/review on a monthly basis; Analyze and maintain customer usage and sendout data & perform statistical analyses when required
  • Manage the daily cash balancing and bank reconciliation process
  • Perform miscellaneous supervisory duties, including: performance reviews, employee development, correspondence, time reporting, cross-training, general guidance, etc. for both gas accounting and asset management groups
  • Perform data entry input into the underlying general ledger software, subsystems dedicated to fixed asset management and gas supply and gas revenue

Required Education & Preferred Experience: (may include certifications, licenses and registrations)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting  or related field is required
  • Two years of experience using CIS is preferred
  • Experience with the fixed asset management platform and its subsystems and understanding of fixed asset management policies and procedures is preferred
  • One to two years of experience with the cost of gas and understanding the various GSA components is preferred
  • One to two years of supervisory experience is strongly preferred

Preferred knowledge, skill and abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate and master the core and job category competencies applicable for this role within the organization
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is preferred
  • Knowledge of the software platform used for gas accounting and asset management is preferred
  • Knowledge of SAP and CCS preferred (Customer Care and Billing) is preferred
  • Knowledge of the Company’s billing procedures and tariffs is preferred
  • Knowledge of financial pages is preferred
  • Ability to analyze financial data and communicate results of said data is preferred

Physical demands, work environment and work schedule:

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods, and use a computer.  
  • Overtime required for monthly, quarterly and annual closing and other due date driven projects
