Summary

Spire Marketing (SM) is seeking a trader to join its gas marketing organization in Houston.  This position will work closely with Origination and Trading groups at SM.  The job will focus on building a strong presence with producers, pipelines, storage operators, and markets.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with SMI Leadership team to develop and maintain a strategy for SM to grow its marketing business expanding into new markets, grow and maintain relationships with top customers and counterparties, including pipelines, storage operators, and other gas marketers and traders outside of SM.
  • Aggressively pursue core business opportunities with all customers (i.e., producers, pipelines, storage operators, and targeted end-users).
  • Ensure SM remains focused on key long-term relationships and providing top notch customer service in whatever form necessary to ensure the longevity and growth of these valuable relationships
  • Provide timely and accurate information to facilitate accurate scheduling and accounting for all gas transactions
  • Work with trading to evaluate future commercial transactions within the wholesale gas market
  • Monitor all developments in the physical gas markets, including supply and demand trends, gas prices, gas flows, locational basis, seasonal spreads, volatility, etc
  • Work with trading to optimize SM’s short-term and long-term gas supply purchase and sales activities
  • Work with trading to optimize SM’s storage contracts by monitoring all storage activities and forward positions on an ongoing basis to extract as much intrinsic and extrinsic value as possible from the contracts
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical or accounting/finance-related discipline or have experience that can provide the knowledge necessary to fulfill the duties

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in energy commodities markets, including, marketing, deal origination, and buying/selling gas and pipeline transportation and/or storage capacity and/or scheduling
  • Solid understanding of all aspects of the physical gas value chain (i.e., Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream)
  • Extensive knowledge of the interstate pipeline grid, including how pipelines, supply basins, and market areas fit together to supply the region
  • Knowledge of how gas usage varies based on weather and other factors and the resulting constraints and impacts on pipeline capacity and value in the market
  • Knowledge of how to structure and negotiating long-term transactions with pipelines, LNG operators, storage operators, LDC's, electric utilities, retailers, IPP's, producers, and other participants within the N.A. gas market
  • Knowledge of pipeline scheduling, allocation and capacity release processes
  • Knowledge of financial products, including options used to supplement the physical gas trading and the marketing business
  • Understanding of optimizing a portfolio of contractual gas transportation/storage assets
  • Broad understanding of energy markets (i.e., oil, power, NGL's) and their fundamental drivers
  • Knowledge of managing gas price, volume, credit and counterparty risks

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Typical hours are 6:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Additional hours may be needed to meet deadlines and manage off-hour customer needs
