Spire is seeking a Corrosion Control Specialist to work at the Central office in Kansas City, MO and be responsible for pipeline safety regulatory compliance and the management of the cathodic protection test-point inspection databases, providing direction to the Construction and Maintenance department regarding proper cathodic protection application, monitoring techniques, and scheduling and also assisting in the performance of pipeline integrity management field operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the cathodic protection test-point monitoring process and database, including, as necessary, directing Company personnel in the process and printing inspection and repair cards.
  • Monitor reports generated from databases and checking that all districts complete their inspections and repairs within a proper time frame.
  • Conduct, as necessary, field surveys and evaluations of transmission line segments in preparations for pipeline integrity indirect assessments.
  • As necessary, direct and supervise both Company and third-party contractor crews in the performance of pipeline integrity transmission line assessments.
  • Maintain all records on inspections on rectifiers and critical bonds.
  • Audit and investigate corrosion leaks on coated mains and services.
  • Review new installation drawings involving steel and ensure that all corrosion standards are being followed.

Required Education: (may include certifications, licenses, and registrations) 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of the NACE International CP1 – Cathodic Protection Course preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Two years of experience in on-the-job supervision of corrosion control in the field including cathodic protection monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Four years of field experience in natural gas distribution system construction and/or maintenance or equivalent field.

Physical demands, work environment and work schedule:  

  • Work is normally performed in a shared office environment, but may include occasional outside customer-facing activities within the Spire service territory.
  • Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Overtime/travel: occasional evening and/or weekend event programs.
