Spire is seeking a Database Engineer to implement database solutions and help design Spire’s Cloud Database Architecture. This position will be responsible for building, maintaining, and implementing database solutions across multiple application environments and ensuring that all databases adhere to security and governance standards and best practices. The successful Database Engineer will have hands on experience with database structures, and understand theories, principles and practices and will excel at finding solutions to challenging problems.   We are looking for someone who can bring their experience, expertise, and enthusiasm to help us deliver on Spire’s strategic vision to Make the breakthroughs today that will energize tomorrow. 

Duties and Responsibilities

•    Monitor databases for performance problems and recommend performance-tuning actions using 
•    Recommend, install, and maintain relevant network components to ensure database access, consistency, and integrity
•    Recommend, test, and implement new releases of the Oracle and SQL database products
•    Working with various Spire Business and IT teams, design and implement new databases and assist in the development of utilities/programs to be used in the loading of data into the databases
•    Train other DBEs as needed in the Oracle and MS SQL database environment and on any application in which the DBE has knowledge
•    Initiate, review, and maintain policies and procedures pertaining to database recovery and disaster recovery
•    Installation and maintenance of Database products and utilities
•    Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing procedures for modifications to databases
•    Recommend, establish, and implement database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity, recoverability, and availability of the Company’s data controlled by these databases
•    Ensure infrastructure meets industry standards for high availability, ensuring uptime SLAs are met
•    Work with the Operations team and Smart Desk to provide documentation, operating procedures and troubleshooting guides for ongoing support. 
•    Work with Information Security on secured configurations and policies for infrastructure systems
•    Work with the ITSM team regarding change control, incident management, problem management and IT policies in an ITIL driven organization
•    Fully embedded in Agile teams, participates in all ceremonies and planning. 
•    Review and develop procedures and document resolutions contributing to the Knowledgebase and detailing problem resolution
•    Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

•    N/A

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

•    BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Information Systems or equivalent experience.
•    CISSP, SAFe Agile Certifications, Oracle or Microsoft SQL Certifications

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

•    In depth understanding of database structures, theories, principles and practices, including but not limited to the creation and definition of database, database recovery procedures, and database product installation
•    SQL, SQL-Plus, and CRON coding knowledge and experience
•    Oracle RAC knowledge and experience
•    Integration services, server Administrator, Reporting Services, SSIS, SSRS, SQL Database developer, T-SQL, Clustering, and Replication.
•    Knowledge of Oracle fundamentals
•    Strong communications skills (written and verbal), administrative and interpersonal skills desired.
•   5+ years of proven experience with Oracle or SQL database administration.

Physical demands, environment and schedule

•    Work is performed in a shared, open-office environment
•    Evening and weekend hours may be necessary to meet critical project deadlines
•    Some travel may be required to meet the needs of the business
