The Engineering Intern will be responsible for providing support to the Manager, Pipeline Safety Distribution in the area of Pipeline Safety Compliance.  As needed may also provide support in the other areas of Operations Shared Services by assisting and advising staff about Operations Shared Services projects, as well as maintaining records and files and assuming responsibility for completion of daily tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform including, but not limited to, creating Access databases, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, AutoCAD drawings, GIS drawings, and completing assigned budget projects
  • Gather and prepare t for completion of leak surveys of mains, including periodically reviewing completed records to assure completion of the surveys within the allotted time
  • Update and maintain data in GIS based replacement main priority models
  • Gain and apply knowledge of all applicable DOT/PHMSA/MPSC regulations and, to a lesser degree, all EPA, Corps of Engineers, and OSHA regulations as they impact Operations projects
  • Assist with audits of the Company’s practices, procedures, and facilities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and Company Standards

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of monthly status reports and update project schedules
  • Prepare and/or use documents, spreadsheets, databases, drawings, and other software applications in the daily course of the job
  • All other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to lead by example in support of the Company’s essential characteristics and values: Strong Ethics and Integrity, Dedication to a Safe Work Environment, Commitment to a Diverse Workforce that recognizes and respects every individual’s unique skills and perspectives
  • Must be a currently enrolled rising Junior or Senior or graduate student pursuing a degree in construction management, engineering, or relevant degree 
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Knowledge of basic engineering principles coupled with the ability to apply as needed
  • Proficiency using MSO (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) required, Microsoft Access preferred
  • Ability to use or learn to use various software, including, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and GIS
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently and multitask effectively

Work Schedule

  • Typically, 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • Some additional time beyond normal work hours is sometime required to meet target timeframes for completing special projects or studies
