Summary

The Business Development Support Representative position supports the Business Development customer retention impact goals. This shared service role communicates with Customers, Trade Allies, and Internal Departments to influence natural gas equipment installations for Spire AL, Gulf, and Mississippi. This position leads inside sales efforts which require actively engaging in all retention calls, prioritizing customer needs and completing all assigned duties in a timely manner. This role is results based and focuses on influencing customers energy decisions. The position provides guidance and assists with the handling of non-routine customer contacts and supports customer sales and marketing programs focused on growing and retaining the utilities customer base.

Duties and Responsibilities

•    Responsible for executing the corporate retention effort by offering creative solutions that meet each customer’s unique circumstances.
•    Handles a range of incoming calls for service, sales, marketing, and repair related requests.
•    Provides billing assistance to Top Builders Assist in the installation of natural gas mains and services for the retention department.
•    Ensure records are entered accurately and timely, tasks are worked by internal partners as process requires, and relevant information regarding installations are effectively communicated.
•    Provide prompt and effective customer support to builders, addressing inquires concerns, and requests related to billing and invoicing.
•    Review and correct final bill invoices related to billing and invoicing and ensure accuracy in mailing addresses.
•    Collaborates with others, as needed, to solve problems creatively with limited support from the supervisor.
•    Responsible for executing the corporate retention effort by offering creative solutions that meet each customer’s unique circumstances.
•    Prevents voluntary residential customer attrition by executing the Business Development Support Save policy.
•    Understands and successfully communicates the benefits of natural gas and natural gas equipment to customers who are making energy decisions.
•    Actively listens and quickly empathizes with customers to make sure their energy needs are met with the usage of natural gas.
•    Executes marketing campaigns to increase customer response and is accountable for results.
•    Works effectively as part of a team and displays a positive attitude in this dynamic environment.
•    Engages in the conversion sales effort to support the conversion growth goal.
•    Receives credit applications to support the financing growth goal.
•    Takes initiative, utilizes judgment and seeks opportunities to independently satisfy customers while hitting sales targets.
•    Coordinates with Commercial and Residential Business Development to assist customer growth.
•    Follows all Business Development department guidelines, processes and procedures.
•    Handles special projects assigned by supervisor and/or management.
 

Essential Characteristics and Competencies

•    Excellent understanding of CC&B, Oracle, Microsoft Office Suites, and Adobe, Salesforce
•    Excellent oral and written skills
•    Firm understanding of the Natural Gas installation process and terminology associated  
•    Knowledge or the ability to quickly grasp the technical aspects of residential natural gas equipment and its operation.
•    Is constantly aware of Company policies relating to promotional programs to obtain increased gas load, the disclosure of which could affect competitive relationships
•    Understands and effectively communicates Spire’s Credit and Conversion Policies

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

•    Associates Degree or equivalent work experience 

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

•    2 + years of experience in a customer-facing, sales related, call center (or equivalent) environment  
•    2 years of natural gas related sales experience preferred 
 

Physical demands, environment and schedule

•    Normal Work Environment - Work is normally performed in a shared office environment.
•    Must adapt to continual noise of phone conversations, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks and call types. 
•    Must adapt to long periods of close viewing of PC and long periods of sitting at a workstation.
•    Standard work hours are from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
•    Overtime is infrequent but may be required due to seasonal demand.
•    Minimal travel required.
