Summary

Spire Alabama is seeking a Residential Business Development Representative to work in the Mobile, Alabama location. The Business Development Representative drives the expansion and growth of market share within the residential new construction markets by establishing and cultivating contacts with residential builders, developers and other energy decision-makers. This role demands a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with a strong customer service orientation, with the ability to collaborate with various departments internally and provide follow-through. Must be a self-starter with the ability to anticipate work needs with minimal supervision and is able to manage multiple projects at once. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Executes the strategic plan for lead generation, pipeline management and account management
Aggressively pursues and confidently wins sales opportunities in the residential new construction markets
Prepares and reviews proposals, incentive options and economic models
Assists legal team with the preparation of natural gas pipeline extension agreements
Manages the opportunity pipeline by surveying job sites, negotiating, upselling and ensuring compliance with contracts for assigned territory and accounts
Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal partners that support growth
Provides a high level of customer service to key customers and trade partners
Be engaged in all phases of the sales cycle including identifying leads, developing and presenting proposals and negotiating contracts
Uses CRM to track opportunities and monitor progress toward goals
Actively participates in trade shows, conferences and other events to build and maintain relationships with members of the residential building industries
Monitors residential market trends and building forecasts to recommend expansion of the distribution system
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Ability to adapt in a fast-moving and changing culture
All other duties as assigned.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering or equivalent work experience
Valid driver’s license

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

Typically requires at least 2 years of natural gas sales experience in the residential new construction market. Comprehensive understanding of the operation of natural gas equipment.
Requires a high level of tact, diplomacy and professionalism
Salesforce experience preferred
Ability to design, communicate and deliver professional presentations
Resolves conflict with ease and confidence
Open to receiving candid feedback regarding performance
Highly skilled in the art of negotiation
Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to establish rapport with a diverse array of people
Ability to influence a diverse team of professionals
Works independently and manages time effectively
Ability to work in a fast-changing team environment with a positive attitude
Manages multiple projects with competing priorities
Strong skills with CRM, Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word

Physical demands, environment and schedule

Normal office conditions, customer locations, and construction sites.
Requires normal physical stamina.
Duties may also require continual local automobile travel and exposure to the elements.
Requires frequent phone calls and interruptions both during and after working hours. Occasional after-hours and/or travel may be required
