Spire is seeking a program manager to work in our St Louis office.  This position will manage strategic and cross-functional projects with a focus on strategic alignment, optimizing value creation and project synergies. It is accountable for prioritizing and executing projects in alignment with strategic objectives and forming strong partnerships to elevate and optimize strategic project results.

Primary duties:

  • Plan, forecast, and manage portfolio of projects through the project lifecycle including those with the highest level of complexity, risk, and strategic impact
  • Manage program and project plan integration with a focus on company strategy, cross-project, and cross-functional impacts
  • Serve as mentor to project managers and project leaders on project management discipline, best practices, and process improvement; recommend innovative ways to solve problems
  • Implement change management tools and techniques to address themes across projects
  • Identify project risks early, with specific focus on higher level and cross-project dependencies; develop mitigation strategies, and elevate to project and company leadership as appropriate
  • Create transparency through proactive reporting and program/portfolio tracking to meet cost, quality, and time constraints, as well as optimize strategic goal achievement
  • Communicate regularly with project managers, business owners and executive sponsors
  • Analyze project portfolio for strategic goal achievement, prioritization, resource optimization, connections across projects, and change management themes
  • Measure project portfolio success and enable data-driven decision making through identification, implementation and ongoing measurement of KPIs
  • Coordinate with Innovation, Continuous Improvement, and Project Management leadership on continuous and annual standard process of collecting project proposals, evaluating and prioritizing, socializing for approval, ensuring alignment with budget and forecast processes, and assigning resources
  • Partner closely with department leadership, HR, and the business to ensure optimal support of all project work, holistic view of project portfolio, and balanced team skill and opportunities
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and skills described in the foundational principles of Project Management described in the Program Management Body of Knowledge
  • Experience with Agile development and project management techniques
  • Skilled in budget preparation, work scheduling and management applications, meeting management, technical reporting, contract management
  • Ability to lead by example, define roles/responsibilities, motivate and set strategy
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Relationship building, problem solving & analysis, managing for results, people leadership, people development, planning, organizational savvy, business acumen, negotiation, quality
  • Ability to make difficult decisions and communicate those decisions to others

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, IT or other relevant background required
  • MBA preferred
  • Minimum ten years of related experience, including leading business projects, business improvement efforts, and leading through change

Certificates, licenses, registrations:

  • Project Management Professional required
  • Change management certification preferred
  • Other accreditations, such as PMI-PBA, PMI-ACP, Lean Six Sigma, are valued

Work environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a shared office environment
  • 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday
  • May require work during nonstandard business hours
  • Some travel required
