Summary
Competencies for this position are to perform Preventative Maintenance (PM), repair broken, worn or other damaged mechanical, hydraulic or electrical parts on vehicles and equipment ranging from grounds maintenance equipment through earth moving equipment (including trailers, medium & heavy-duty trucks, and specialty equipment) with little to no direction or supervision required to perform tasks. Responsibilities may involve performing PM’s or repairs to cars, vans, light trucks, construction equipment, and various shop/company tools as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs PM inspections and repairs on a wide variety of vehicles
- Effectively log in and out of jobs as assigned to repair orders.
- Change tires and perform repairs
- Clean and maintain garage and immediate workspace
- Diagnose, repair and or replace broken or defective components
- Familiarization with a wide variety of vehicles and equipment
- Pickup and delivery of company vehicles & equipment
- Perform Missouri Motor Vehicle Inspections and Federal DOT inspections
- Conduct the repair of major components
- Perform occasional tasks such as making emergency service calls in the field
- Aid in the training of junior technicians
- Perform tasks as required related to Fleet as assigned and other duties as assigned
- Supply own set of basic hand tools for use in maintenance work as directed
Essential Characteristics and Competencies
- The job requires an in-depth knowledge of the principles of both Unleaded & Diesel internal combustion engines, hydraulic systems, air systems, computer & electrical systems along with a detailed knowledge of their parts & operation gained from technical training and practical work experience

Supervisory Responsibilities

Required Education (certifications, licenses)
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Seven (7) years’ hands-on experience with on-the-job training working in a repair facility -required
- An associate degree in automotive or Diesel Technology from a hands-on accredited Institute preferred
- Possession of a State Inspectors License and DOT certification as required by the State & FMCSA or the ability to obtain one within a 1 year in the position and must remain certified - required
- Maintain proficiency in Qualification Review Standards
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and able to obtain a Class “A” CDL with HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements within 1 year in the position -required
- Possession of Refrigerant Recovery Certification or the ability to obtain one within 1 year in the position - required
- Mechanical repair knowledge of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
- Ability to lead and communicate in a team environment and display a positive attitude in a dynamic environment
- Ability to make decisions based within job description
- Ability to multitask effectively
- Ability to use a copy machine to scan various documents
- Activate emergency procedures effectively
- Read and interpret pertinent laws, codes and safety orders dealing with the handling of fuel and transportation of fuel(s) and hazardous materials
Physical demands, environment and schedule
- Job responsibilities require both inside and outside work to be performed, with possible exposure to adverse weather conditions
- This position may involve shift work
- May come in to contact with oil, grease, and a variety of fluids and solvents
- Must be in physical shape to use hand & power tools, climb, bend, twist, stretch, swing necessary tooling, lift up to 50 lbs.
- Overtime may be requested
- The job is performed in accordance with company rules and policies
