Summary

Spire Inc. is seeking a Supervisor, Distribution to work in our Birmingham, Alabama operation area. This position will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and supervising the installation, maintenance, and inspection of regulator stations, distribution equipment, industrial meter sets, valves, compliance components, and compliance surveys. It is also responsible for the development and management of associated departmental and capital budgets.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prioritize, coordinate, and assign distribution-related work among the work location’s distribution crews
  • Maintain monthly and quarterly odorization reports
  • Schedule employees on a daily and weekly basis to ensure sufficient manpower to complete scheduled jobs to ensure compliance work is completed on time
  • Perform field checks of job sites to determine scope of pending workload
  • Perform field checks of distribution crews to ensure employees are following company safety, standards and procedures during the work shift
  • Monitor crew performance to ensure job performance levels are in line with business unit objectives
  • Process and review all required documentation
  • Meet with plant managers/supervisors, project managers, and contractors to coordinate work and determine routes or designs
  • Manage distribution projects between internal employees and contractors
  • Meet with certain commercial and industrial customers to ensure needs are met
  • Request locates from other utilities for distribution-related jobs and ensure that locates have been completed before routing a crew
  • Order and maintain distribution parts and materials along with the review and approval of material requisitions
  • Coordinate activities with other departments or other supervisors to ensure that work is completed in the most efficient manner possible
  • Oversee the implementation of plans to ensure the health and safety of all employees in the work location
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position will supervise a group of Union employees.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Alabama driver’s license

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Requires a thorough knowledge of company policies and procedures as they apply to all Company operating departments

  • A minimum of one year experience in construction engineering is preferred

  • A minimum of one year of experience working with the installation, maintenance, and/or inspection of regulator stations, distribution equipment, industrial meter sets, valves, compliance components, and compliance surveys preferred.

  • Must be familiar with the rules and regulations of the Alabama Public Service Commission 

  • A minimum of one year of experience working with the installation, maintenance, and/or inspection of regulator stations, distribution equipment, industrial meter sets, valves, compliance components, and compliance surveys preferred.

  • Requires an understanding of computers, company software and telephone systems

  • Requires a basic understanding of the principles of personnel management, union contracts and organizational dynamics

  • Must be familiar with natural gas distribution

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to adapt in a fast-moving and changing culture

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build and establish rapport with a diverse array of people

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in order to meet individual goals and deadlines

  • Ability to work as part of a team and display a positive attitude for this dynamic environment

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • A mix of normal office conditions, outdoors exposed to all weather conditions, in construction areas with uneven surfaces and in areas exposed to loud audible noises
  • Normal Work Environment - Work is normally performed in a shared office environment
  • Require some outside or field work
  • Overtime and/or travel may be required
