Summary

Spire is seeking a Supervisor, Garage to work at our Birmingham Metro location in Alabama.  The job will be responsible for supervising, scheduling, planning, organizing, and evaluating maintenance work performed by union fleet employees and or vendors in a shop or in the field.  This work will include all stages of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs of cars, trucks, and heavy construction equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise all garage activities, including directing employees, tracking parts, and monitoring work
  • Administer terms of labor contracts and vendor related contracts and agreements
  • Review and approve Employee timecards
  • Audit completed repair orders for accuracy
  • Compile and run various fleet software reports as needed in relation to fleet operational needs including preventative maintenance and DOT inspections
  • All other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises Union Mechanics

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of a two-year course or equivalent in an approved automotive training program (i.e. Technical School or 3 years equivalent experience required
  • Five or more years of relevant experience required, preferably with three or more years as a Journeyman Automotive Mechanic in an automobile repair shop (i.e. automotive dealership or heavy truck industry)
  • Three or more years of supervision of an automobile or equipment repair facility. (i.e. Automobile dealership, or construction equipment dealer or equivalent)
  • Valid driver’s license required, CDL Class “A” required - or ability to obtain within 1 year

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Five or more years of relevant experience required, preferably with three or more years as a Journeyman Automotive Mechanic in an automobile repair shop (i.e. automotive dealership or heavy truck industry)
  • Three or more years of supervision of an automobile or equipment repair facility. (i.e. Automobile dealership, or construction equipment dealer)

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Normal office conditions with the possibility of limited travel
  • Work is normally performed in an industrial garage environment Monday thru Friday 7:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • On call responsibilities as required
