Spire is seeking an Operator II to work in the Evanston, WY location (Spire Storage West).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor equipment functioning, observe temperature, level, and flow, perform regular equipment checks to ensure all equipment is operating as it should.
  • Control operation of compressors, scrubbers, evaporators, and refrigeration equipment to liquefy, or compress natural gas.
  • Operate natural gas equipment. Startup and shut down equipment
  • Control equipment to regulate flow and pressure of gas to feedlines of boilers, heaters, and related steam-generating and heating equipment.
  • Record, review, and compile operations records, test results, and gauge readings such as temperatures, pressures, flow rates, and concentrations.
  • Adjust temperature, pressure, vacuum, level, flow rate, and/or transfer of gas to maintain processes at required levels or to correct problems.
  • Review log sheets to optimize efficiency and detect malfunctions.
  • Requires work on all shifts as the sole person responsible for entire
  • Responsible for adjusting supplies through the use of remote-control regulators and valves as needed to maintain sufficient system pressures and flow
  • Responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and responding to SCADA system alarms, DCS system, and the recognition of unusual conditions that do not generate alarms while notifying appropriate responding personnel
  • Coordinate and monitor the operation of the company’s gas storage
  • All other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associates degree in Engineering or equivalent experience required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive safely

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Five plus years experience of the gas storage/energy industry preferred
  • Knowledge of basic physics, chemistry, gas pressure regulators, gas flow measurement, and related gas industry terminology
  • Knowledge of the Company’s pipeline interconnects, gas distribution systems, and the minimum, normal and maximum allowable operating pressures
  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Be compliant with all OSHA, DOT, FERC regulations, state, and federal regulations
  • Abide by all industry and plant safety policies.
  • Ability to pass random drug testing
  • Must complete and pass a physical

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Work is performed in an office/ plant environment outdoors and in all weather conditions
  • After 4-month training required year-round rotating shift work schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Works primarily 12-hour rotating shifts, consisting of day and night shifts.
  • Occasional over-time and on-call work
