Summary
Spire is seeking an enthusiastic, career minded student or recent graduate to join our team. Our paid internship position affords students the opportunity to learn and be mentored. As an Intern, you may complete various projects and perform administrative duties while developing skills related to the assigned department and natural gas industry. To be considered, you must:
- Be a currently enrolled college student or graduate student ,
- Have availability to work up to 40 hours per week starting in May through the August timeframe,
- Have advanced skills using Microsoft Office and Excel,
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills,
- Maintain a high level of motivation and a strong desire to take on new challenges
Duties and Responsibilities
- Research and draft memoranda on legal issues relevant to Spire’s utility operations
- Assist with drafting and negotiation of basic contracts
- Support diligence and closing efforts on financing and possibly M&A transactions
- Assist with preparation of data requests and testimony to state regulatory commissions
- Collaborate with business partners before a contract is started and during the contracting process
- Work on final presentation representing all summer activities
Essential Characteristics and Competencies
Supervisory Responsibilities
Required Education (certifications, licenses)
- Completed their first year of law school at an ABA-accredited law school
- Preference given to students with strong academic history
- Current Law Student, 1L or 2L preferredU
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
- Ability to demonstrate the core and job category competencies: customer-focused, results-driven, teamwork, communications, adaptability, initiative, problem solving and quality
- Ability to lead by example in support of the Company’s essential characteristics and values: strong ethics and integrity, dedication to a safe work environment, commitment to a diverse workforce that recognizes and respects every individual’s unique skills and perspectives
- Must possess deductive reasoning skills, be able to analyze and synthesize information for problem solving
- Computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email software, internet searching, and other programs
Physical demands, environment and schedule
- Work is typically performed in an open shared office environment;
- Working hours are typically 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
- Additional time beyond normal hours is sometimes required to meet deadlines
- Limited local travel may be required
