Primary duties:

  • Work with SMI Leadership to develop and maintain a strategy to grow wholesale business, grow and maintain relationships with top customers and counterparties, including pipelines, storage operators, and other gas marketers and traders outside of SM in North America.
  • Aggressively and effectively pursue core business opportunities in conjunction with Origination and Trading with all customers
  • Ensure focus on key long-term relationships and providing top notch customer service.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to facilitate scheduling and accounting for all gas and pipeline transportation transactions.
  • Monitor all developments in the key regions related to physical gas markets.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all SM's physical and financial positions in the Northeast Region.
  • Work with trading to optimize SM’s short-term and long-term gas supply purchase and sales activities.
  • Work with trading to optimize SM’s storage contracts.


  • Solid understanding of all aspects of the physical gas value chain.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Northeast interstate pipeline grid, including how pipelines, supply basins, and market areas fit together to supply the region.
  • Knowledge of how gas usage varies.
  • Knowledge of how to structure and negotiating long-term transactions with pipelines,
  • Knowledge of pipeline scheduling, allocation and capacity release processes.
  • Solid understanding of financial products.
  • Solid understanding of risk management techniques to hedge a gas trading/marketing portfolio.
  • Understanding of optimizing a portfolio of contractual gas transportation/storage assets.

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical or accounting/finance-related discipline
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in energy commodities markets, including, marketing, deal origination, and buying/selling gas and pipeline transportation and/or storage capacity and scheduling.

Work environment:

  • Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday additional month may be required to attend meetings outside of normal work hours.
