Spire is seeking a Senior Accountant to work in the Houston, TX office.  This position will be responsible for assisting the with accounting, financial reporting, and analysis activities for the Marketing and Storage businesses.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Accurate preparation of the monthly financial reporting package and journal entries
  • Responsible for assisting wholesale and retail accounting which could include invoicing, settlements, and entering fixed charges from other companies
  • Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
  • Work closely with internal and external auditors in the identification of potential risks and the application of solutions to mitigate
  • Coordinate with shared service departments on financial closing activities
  • Assist with preparation of regulatory and government reporting
  • Assist other Finance staff with complex analysis and related duties as assigned
  • Seek out opportunities and implement changes for process improvements


Essential Characteristics and Competencies


  • Strong computer and accounting technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of the corporate hierarchy and between multiple office locations on written and oral interfaces
  • Ability to work independently with limited management oversight
  • Energy industry experience preferred
  • Experience working with an ETRM system such as Openlink Endur preferred


Supervisory Responsibilities


Required Education (certifications, licenses)


  • 3 + years financial accounting experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP

Physical demands, environment and schedule
  • Work is normally performed in a shared office environment in Houston, TX – Dynamic office conditions (gas trading floor which may be moderately noisy at times)
  • Overtime may be required periodically - occasional travel may be required but will be minimal (less than 10%)
