Summary

Spire is seeking a Facilities Planner.  This position will lead Project Management and Construction Management efforts, as well as support the Facility Administration efforts for all company locations.  The Facility Planner will also manage other facilities projects or activities as assigned.   

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage individual projects assigned from the Company’s strategic facility plan as it relates to real estate and construction projects. 
  • Provide construction management to projects assigned as well as those consulted on to ensure the overall maintenance standards established are considered on all projects.
  • Develop plans and budgets to accomplish necessary realty/construction project, monitor and adjust schedule and budgets as necessary to keep project on target.
  • Meet with Architects, government officials, contractors and others as needed to provide guidance and approvals to complete projects.
  • Review Architects drawings and give creative suggestions, ensure adheres to established department standards and coordinates review with others as necessary.
  • Coordinate with supply chain, legal and any other necessary departments for all contracts and scope of work for projects assigned.
  • Review and approve field changes as needed, making routine field visits to provide inspections as to timeliness and quality of work
  • Manage the activities of others to ensure successful completion of project, on time and on budget.  This includes cross functional departments involved, namely Facilities, ITS, Records, Corporate Communications, Environmental Compliance, Security and Corporate Safety, among others, to ensure corporate policies and procedures are being followed and incorporated into various projects and work to reduce the amount of interruption to employees in their daily work.
  • Research and gather information on potential items/materials that could be used in the building projects
  • Coordinates with the Manager of Facility Administration on maintenance items.  Acting as lead liaison with Manager of Facility Administration on the Planning function.
  • Communicates with Manager of Facilities Planning, the progress of projects assigned, providing reports including timelines, issues list, milestones, action items, etc. 
  • Assist with the development of the Company Strategic Facility Plan, annual facility assessments, lease negotiations and land acquisitions as necessary.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of departmental metrics and benchmarking activities (internal and external)
  • Assist with the development and implementation of standardized policies and procedures to streamline and simplify the development, design, construction, and maintenance of company facilities
  • All other duties as assigned.

Essential Characteristics and Competencies

Supervisory Responsibilities

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in building services, construction management, engineering, business or related field

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate the core and job category competencies: customer-focused, results-driven, teamwork, communications, adaptability, initiative, problem solving and quality
  • Ability to lead by example in support of the Company’s essential characteristics and values: strong ethics and integrity, dedication to a safe work environment, commitment to a diverse workforce that recognizes and respects every individual’s unique skills and perspectives
  • Five years of experience in construction management, facility administration, planning and budgeting
  • Thorough knowledge of normal building practices, building codes, local, state and federal codes as required by the building project and the ability to read construction documents preferred
  • Must be proficient in PC Windows and Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability for strong organization skills and project management
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, analyze, draw conclusions and present recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with internal customers and external contractors

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Primarily normal office conditions with periodic visits to equipment rooms, construction sites or unfinished office space as needed.  May required standing and moving around for entire work shift at times.
  • The duties of this role are required for all Corporate facilities across the various states and therefore travel will be required.
  • Typically, 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required.
