Supervises workers engaged in the construction and maintenance of underground natural gas transmission and distribution systems.

Primary duties:

  • Supervises daily work activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of the underground natural transmission and distribution systems by company employees and outside contractors. Serves as duty supervisor for Construction and Service departments.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and adheres to OSHA and other federal and state regulations. Consults with supervisory and engineering personnel to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Reviews and processes necessary paperwork and requisitions to ensure accuracy and completeness. Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
  • Trains construction personnel in job-related duties, as well as safety procedures.
  • Confers with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within work force.

Supervisory responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises 5 to 10 employees in the Construction Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.

Education and experience:

  • Associate degree from two-year college or technical school.
  • Four to six years of related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.

Work environment:

  • Works both inside the office and in the field. Field work may involve extreme heat and/or cold, and wet/humid/inclement weather conditions, as well as exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles, and noisy environments.  Normal work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.  Actual work hours may vary, depending on the season and work scheduling requirements.  Overtime may be necessary on weekdays, weekends, and holidays, as the need arises.  Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
