Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain construction estimating processes, including analysis and updates to CU’s
  • Handle calls and correspondence from Construction and Leak & Maintenance foremen, general foremen, civic inspectors, External Affairs, and other departments regarding the status of jobs and projects
  • Handle calls and correspondence from outside the Company (municipalities, engineering firms, developers) to process the needed information to coordinate the Company’s facilities with proposed improvements and development
  • Process the all proposed road improvements, including identifying conflicts, designing relocations, obtaining variances, initiating work orders, and seeking reimbursement
  • Schedule and prioritize projects that are going to construction or have a higher priority due to the Company’s requirements
  • Prepare necessary paperwork related to the Company’s procedures for gas main and service work as required, including utility agreements and other documents
  • Attend utility meetings and pre-construction meetings to negotiate with representatives from engineering firms and municipalities to reduce the impact of proposed improvements to the Company’s existing facilities
  • Assign the various plans for review to the GIS Analyst and follow their progress through the construction drawing process, providing information or direction when needed, as required to properly convey and depict design decisions
  • Assist in the daily coordination, assignment of work and oversight of GIS Analyst and Construction Engineers
  • Work on special projects
  • Responsible for specifying and having placed on order most non-stock material required for all types of main and service work
  • Review the design and cost estimates for all types of main and service work; review delivery pressures; and justify proposed main work
  • Determine main financing costs for new business main extensions and report results to Marketing Department
  • Determine any non-normal costs that may occur with a main extension
  • Develop the detailed specifications, designs, and project plans for all components of natural gas distribution, including regulator stations, take points, transmission and liquid propane systems consistent with applicable codes and regulations
  • Ability to lead by example in support of the Company’s essential characteristics and values

Required Education: (may include certifications, licenses and registrations)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Valid driver’s license 

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Five years of related engineering experience
  • Two to Three years of practical design experience and interaction with road/highway agencies
  • Remaining qualifications are unchanged

Physical demands, work environment and work schedule:

  • Typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Overtime and/or travel may be required
