Summary

Spire is seeking an intern to work in our ITS area alongside a development team that effectively enable technology to support a wide range of business functions from Customer Facing and Operations to Finance and Supply Chain.  This position will focus on technical analysis, design, and development, partnering with other developers to learn and understand how our solutions meet business needs and align with enterprise architectural governance and standards.    

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and configure in specific application landscape, alongside other senior team members
  • Responds, when required, to triage production issues related to enterprise applications (dependent upon what team is selected)
  • Participates in building quality practices into development team
  • Prepares technical design documents based on business requirements for enhancements
  • Effectively collaborates within your specific team, as well as across agile teams to ensure alignment in dependencies, and how each team’s work impacts your own  
  • Participates in technical workshops with PO/PM's across the App Delivery teams, and when necessary, business stakeholders
  • Follows standards of development set forth
  • Learns end to end landscape of applications and how each support Spire’s business processes
  • Ensures built-in quality, partnering with Quality Assurance, as it pertains to unit/developer testing
  • Identifies and supports performance improvement activities using software tools
  • Fully imbedded in development teams, and participates in all ceremonies and planning, focused on acceptance criteria that is clear, precise, and testable
  • Accepts work into the team backlog and owns the commitment related to what has been laid out to be completed each PI
  • Contributes fully to meeting the overall team and PI objectives, while also giving feedback when necessary to Product owners and/or Scrum masters, including areas of risk and impediments that are encountered 
  • Plays key role ion actively developing as part of a specific initiative set forth, contributing to end-to-end lifecycle of a full change that can be shown to end-users as a high value add feature of new functionality.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student and will be a Junior, Senior, or Master’s level student in Fall 2023
  • Cumulative GPA 3.0 or above
  • Current major in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Technical Engineering preferred

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Understanding of the Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) approach
  • Analytical skills/capabilities to solve specific issues arising during design and unit testing phases
  • Knowledge in the fundamentals of iterative and incremental development practices
  • Knowledge using SQL server, SQL, and relational database
  • Ability to write technical designs and explore proofs of concept
  • Desire to learn in an ever-changing environment
  • Scripting experience preferred (javaScript, XML, Python, etc.)
  • Knowledge in variety of programming language (Perl, Ruby, etc.)
  • Experience working on cross-functional projects a plus 
  • Experience in SQL, PL/SQL
  • Experience with agile concepts a plus

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Hybrid Remote/Office environment
  • Work performed primarily during business hours, with off-hours support required at times
  • Some travel may be required as ITS and teams are disparate across locations (primarily St. Louis and Birmingham)
