Spire is seeking an enthusiastic, career-minded student or recent graduate to join our team. We are excited to welcome a student interested in learning more about corporate accounting. Our paid internship position affords students the opportunity to learn and be mentored.  As an Intern, you may complete various projects and perform administrative duties while developing skills related to the assigned department and natural gas industry. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and complete projects based on departmental needs,
  • Become acquainted with monthly balance sheet schedules, including bank reconciliations,
  • Assist in various activities associated with the monthly close process, creating journal entries and account analysis, and the preparation of SEC financial statements and footnotes,
  • Prepare ad-hoc reporting for specific management requests,
  • Assist in the company’s Spire One system project migrating the company to one platform,
  • Assist in special projects and miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned,
  • Assist other departments relating to financial information,
  • Communicate project status and results to management,
  • Perform administrative functions as needed,
  • Maintain regular and reliable level of attendance

Essential Characteristics and Competencies

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student and will be a Junior, Senior, or master’s level student in Fall 2023
  • Current major in accounting or finance.
  • Cumulative GPA 3.0 or above

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Have availability to work up to 40 hours per week starting in May through the August timeframe,
  • Have advanced skills using Microsoft Office (especially Excel),
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills,
  • Satisfactory completion of introductory and intermediate accounting courses,
  • Possess a basic understanding of US GAAP and financial principles,
  • Maintain a high level of motivation and a strong desire to take on new challenges
