Summary

The Facility Engineer will be responsible for providing assessment support, analysis, research, project leadership and departmental support to develop, recommend and implement equipment and process standards in facility energy use, MEP’s, and sustainability practices across all company locations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis of Building Energy Audit reporting and on-going energy data to support Corporate initiative focused on Energy reduction and Sustainability.  Establish project priority, associated cost analysis and develop an actionable plan for submittal to departmental Leadership
  • Lead the development of policies, procedures and standards for building materials including building envelope, roofs, water drainage and landscaping, MEP design guidelines, lighting and BAS.  Ensure conformance with regulatory requirements, corporate policies and organizational objectives
  • Support capital new construction and renovation projects by providing project parameters, reviewing and overseeing outside MEP firm project drawings and specifications, review MEP submittals and attend construction meetings
  • Establish performance review system and monitoring of implemented maintenance and engineering initiatives to ensure continued efficiencies in building operations, including support in the resolution of chronic maintenance problems and provide technical input on preventative maintenance standards
  • Lead efforts to establish Facility related Green practices, including janitorial practices, recycling, and office supplies
  • Research and keep abreast of latest technologies, trends and industry benchmarks focused on Facility construction, maintenance, energy and sustainability.  Socialize findings with Facility Administration and Planning, Design and Construction teams
  • All other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No direct reports but ability to supervise contractors and other outside services, or internal project resources

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or other related discipline
  • LEED accreditation preferred
     

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • 5 plus years of experience in Facilities, Engineering or related field and progressive experience in Facilities and EHS
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and techniques to the solution of equipment, buildings, and infrastructure
  • Familiarity with regulations and building codes
  • Must be proficient in PC Windows and Microsoft Office applications
     

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Primarily normal office conditions in a shared office environment with periodic visits to equipment rooms, construction sites or unfinished office space as needed.  May require standing and moving around for entire work shift at times.
  • Travel is required as the duties of this role are required for all Corporate facilities across the various states in the Spire footprint.
  • Typically, 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday.  Overtime may be required.
