Summary

Spire is seeking a Manager, Income Tax Reporting to work in St. Louis, MO.  As the Manager, Income Tax Reporting you would be responsible for ensuring that the budget and forecasts updates, disclosures included in quarterly filings, and the various income tax returns are prepared and completed accurately and on a timely basis.  This role would also support the monthly tax provision process as well as various regulatory filings.  Further, proper US GAAP accounting as it relates to ASC 980 is the responsibility of this position in coordination with the External Financial Reporting group

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the tax accounting process for the Company to be  accurate and timely
  • Coordinate and manage the monthly forecast updates from an income tax perspective
  • Assist with tax planning initiatives
  • Perform research and effectively apply tax laws and regulations to the Company’s situation
  • Manage the computation of the regulatory adjustments to the effective tax rate
  • Coordinate and manage income tax audits from the following types of auditors: governmental, outside independent, and internal
  • Respond to income taxing authority notices and effectively resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain a program of high performance standards and sound employee relations at all levels of the Company
  • Direct and oversee income tax calculations for the Company’s regulatory rate filings
  • Oversee all compliance and documentation associated with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act as it relates to income taxes
  • Directly supervise income tax staff
  • Other duties as assigned to meet departmental and Company objectives

Essential Characteristics and Competencies

  • Ability to perform tax research, including the ability to read, interpret, and apply complex tax laws and directives
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications
  • Knowledge of income tax and financial reporting practices
  • Ability to prioritize and simultaneously manage multiple concurrent challenging projects
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and internal controls
  • Knowledge of SEC and IRS compliance and reporting requirements and regulations
  • Strong to advanced computer skills, including ERP applications and all Microsoft Office   applications
  • Strong work ethic and integrity, with a commitment to honesty, candor, and responsible business relationships
  • Ability to motivate tax staff to produce high quality work within tight timeframes
  • Ability to be a team player capable of relationship building both inside and outside the Company

  • Yes

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Master of Business Administration or a Master’s degree in a financial discipline preferred

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • A minimum of 10 years of financial and/or accounting management experience including at least 5 years of corporate tax expertise
  • Strong detailed knowledge of income tax (federal, state and local) and their application to US public company registrants
  • Excellent working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and rules, including ASC740
