Summary

Natural gas fuels communities and enriches lives. But for too long, the industry has been quiet, leaving others to tell the story of our product. Spire is looking to close this gap with online storytelling and content. 
As the content specialist, you’ll create and coordinate social media and online content, messaging and campaigns that align with company and brand priorities. We’re looking for a team member who has deep passion for and knowledge of  social trends and innovative ways to share stories and engage audiences. The ideal candidate is someone who has professional experience representing a brand externally on digital platforms and has the drive to grow social and online communities through organic and paid measures. 
 

Duties and Responsibilities

Social media

  • Collaborate with digital designer, videographer and brand writer to create compelling social media content across channels, including but not limited to: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Manage day-to-day social community, including the escalation of customer complaints with our customer experience department
  • Serve as subject matter expert with internal marketing and content teams to develop and implement Spire’s social media strategy including monthly calendar production, programming, optimization and monthly KPI reporting 
  • Evolve and nurture Spire’s online community 
  • Develop and manage content calendars using tools such as Airtable to track and report on various communications and marketing programs and campaigns
  • Prepare campaign clips and measurement reports for different audiences, including but not limited to regulatory agencies, corporate communications leadership and Spire leadership 

Website and digital content

  • Support interactive, multimedia and digital initiatives for Spire’s website and campaigns 
  • Write and optimize new and existing website content to meet organic search goals and paid search quality scores 
     

Essential Characteristics and Competencies

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, business or related field

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate the core and job category competencies: customer-focused, results-driven, teamwork, communications, adaptability, initiative, problem solving and quality
  • Ability to lead by example in support of the company’s essential characteristics and values: strong ethics and integrity, dedication to a safe work environment, commitment to a diverse workforce that recognizes and respects every individual’s unique skills and perspectives
  • 1-3 years in marketing, communications or related field 
  • Well documented expertise in writing successful, high performing digital content, both for social platforms and for the web, for brands
  • Proficiency in social media and web platforms, technology and monitoring tools, including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube, Facebook Insights, Hootsuite, Tweet Deck and Meltwater and Google Analytics; experience with Sprout Social a plus
  • Basic professional experience with using content management systems, including Drupal and WordPress, as well as other technology platforms and channels
  • Keen attention to detail in planning, organizing and executing communication and marketing projects, while seeing the big picture and understanding the interdependencies
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a relentless focus on teamwork and having a positive, caring attitude
  • Competency as both a team player and a coach
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
     

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Hybrid work environment. Due to the role and the nature of the work, this position requires in-person, onsite work and also allows for some routine weekly remote work. Onsite work is performed in a shared office environment in St. Louis, and this position will work closely with and stay connected to the team members in other Spire geographies, including Kansas City, Missouri, and Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Available to work nights or weekends when needed
