Summary

Performs maintenance responsibilities on Spire fleet assets as directed by Service Desk, Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or Senior Technicians. Examples are performing Preventative Maintenance (PM’s), tires, batteries, jump starts, and other repairs. All new responsibilities learned would be under guidance of an experienced Journeyman or Master Fleet Technician. Equipment and tools used include, but are not limited to, tire changing machines, wheel balancers, vehicles lifts, fluid/grease dispensing units, etc. This position reports to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor and will accept direction from Senior Level Technicians.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs on a wide variety of vehicles which includes but not limited to: Changing oil, lubricating, visually inspecting any and all wearable items, verifying safety and lighting systems are operating correctly and intact. Repairing, replacing, adjusting or tightening of components that shows possibility of failure to help ensure the reliability of the Spire vehicle and equipment fleet.
  • Effectively log in and out of jobs as assigned to repair orders. Perform basic computer system entries pertaining to the repair orders, furnishes parts and labor information about the repair(s) needed, enters detailed job performed information on each task into database, notifies Fleet Maintenance Supervisor of any irregular situations that arise. 
  •  The proper care and handling of company owned vehicles, equipment & tools while practicing 
    safe practices.
  • Pickup and delivery of company vehicles & equipment in commercial shops, roadside, jobs site 
    locations or other Spire locations.
  • Change tires and perform repairs on company vehicles & equipment in shop or in the field.
  • Perform check-in of new assets prior to delivering to Business units. 
  • Perform decommissioning of vehicles, equipment or tools prior to sending to auction.
  • Once qualified, perform Missouri Motor Vehicle Inspections and Federal DOT inspections.
  • Report any vehicle equipment or tooling defects identified.
  • Clean and maintain garage and immediate work area.
  • Candidate must be willing to grow in this position by pursuing requested training or 
    certifications to benefit the business and their capabilities.
  • Perform other tasks as required related to Fleet as assigned by the service desk or Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.
  •  Assist in the monitoring the tire inventory.
  • Assist Parts personnel as needed either in their absence or when needed as directed by the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or service desk.• Inspects & repair defects in tires and balancing, post repairs.
  • Maintain accurate fuel records and logs including, but not limited to; unit numbers, fueling type(s) and the quantity dispensed.
  • Monitor inventory of bulk petroleum products and waste oil levels.
  • Refueling a wide variety of Company assets with gasoline, diesel and/or emission regulated fluids – DEF (Diesel  Exhaust Fluid).

Essential Characteristics and Competencies

  • The job requires a general knowledge of the principles of both Unleaded & Diesel internal combustion engines, hydraulic systems, air systems, computer & electrical systems along with a detailed knowledge of their parts & operation gained from technical training and practical work experience.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Possession of a Class “F”, driver’s license and able to obtain a Class “A” within 1 year in the position. Including as needed: Endorsements with Hazardous Materials and Tanker would be additional requirements.
  • Acquire a State Inspectors License and DOT certification within 1 year in the position as required by the State & FMCSA

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Three (3) years’ experience with on the job training or Associates Degree in Diesel Technology (or Automotive) from a hands-on accredited Institute. 
  •  Mechanical repair knowledge of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to make decisions based within job description.
  • Ability to multitask effectively. 
  • Ability to use a copy machine to scan various documents.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and display a positive attitude in a dynamic environment.
  • Activate emergency procedures effectively.
  • Read and interpret pertinent laws, codes and safety orders dealing with the handling of fuel and transportation of fuel(s) and hazardous materials.

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Job responsibilities require both inside and outside working conditions 
  • May come in to contact with oil, grease, and a variety of fluids and solvents.
  •  Must be in physical shape to use hand & power tools, climb, bend, twist, stretch, swing necessary tooling, lift up to 50 lbs. and pass a company required PT medical exam.
  • Overtime may be requested.
  • The job is performed in accordance to company rules and policies.
  • Work a normal work 5/5 or 5/6 schedule; it is possible to adjust based on the demand of the Business or work rotational schedules as required.
