Summary

Spire is hiring Field Operations Supervisors in the Leak and Maintenance, Pipeline and Service departments to oversee operations during the day shift. Supervisors are responsible for executing the day-to-day work of field operations in and directly managing bargaining unit employees in all aspects of safety, productivity, etc.  They are also responsible for working with their Administrators to make sure they are meeting all compliance and customer related timelines and for holding their teams accountable to make sure this happens. This position is responsible for executing the day-to-day work of field operations and directly managing bargaining unit employees in all aspects of safety, productivity, etc.  They are responsible for working with their Administrators to make sure they are meeting all compliance and customer related timelines and for holding their teams accountable to make sure this happens. 

 

Spire’s Leak & Maintenance crews schedule and complete maintenance work, including cathodic protection issues, installing or replacing services, and work on mains.  Service crews are responsible for performing field service and meter work on natural gas distribution systems including gas turn on/turn off, read in/read out, dead meter checks, meter pulls, meter loop constructions, and investigation of gas odor complaints. Pipeline crews are responsible for the installation and upgrade of pipeline infrastructure including main, services, catholic protection, and locating devices, as well as safely decommissioning outdated infrastructure.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

•    Schedule and coordinate shared equipment and resources
•    Coordinate and oversee the implementation of plans to attain departmental goals
•    Review jobs, including checking blueprints, visiting work sites, prioritizing jobs, and ensuring that the necessary material and equipment are available to complete the job
•    Meet contractors and municipalities, including attending meetings or job sites, going over utility conflicts/changes in contractor plans, and scheduling start dates
•    Coordinate activities with other departments or other operations supervisors to ensure that work is completed in the most efficient manner possible
•    Assist the Service Administrator in the preparation and implementation of the department’s business plan for the current and upcoming fiscal years
•    Prepare and coordinate all safety activities for the region. 
•    Review and complete various types of paperwork, such as absence reports, safety reports, service tickets, weekly manpower reports, etc.
•    Monitor crew performance to ensure job performance levels are in line with business unit objectives
•    Schedule all training (OQ, Fire, Hearing, Halt, Respirator, etc.) for employees 
•    Observe and evaluate new employees
•    Ensure employee timesheets, expense reports, and other routine submissions are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
•    Oversee the implementation of plans to ensure the health and safety of all employees in the region
•    Visit crews and technicians to check on the progress of jobs and that all safety standards are being followed
•    Assist in the management of employee issues, including assisting in the grievance procedure, filling temporary and permanent job vacancies, and disciplining employees
•    All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

•    Responsible for direct management of up large groups of contract employees 
•    Responsible for ensuring all employee time worked is entered into our work management and payroll systems timely and accurately 
•    Responsible for ensuring work is done in the field in an efficient manner and within our budgeted goals.    
•    Responsible for ensuring our bargaining unit employees present themselves in a professional and courteous manner to our customers and have a customer service minded mentality while performing their day-to-day tasks.  
•    Responsible for continually motivating the members of the team to improve the level of safety awareness to achieve success with all the business unit and corporate safety goals and initiatives.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

•    High school diploma/GED
•    Valid Missouri Class E License required or the issuing state’s equivalent and the ability to drive safely and accident free.

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • A minimum of 2 years field-based operations experience working with the installation, maintenance, and/or inspection of regulator stations, distribution equipment, industrial meter sets, valves, compliance components, and/or compliance surveys and emergency response preferred
  • People leadership experience preferred 
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and union labor relations preferred
  • Experience with Maximo, Click and/ or CC& B software preferred
  • Strong organizational skills (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail (required) 
  • Willingness to remain flexible to fill in and provide coverage at other locations and departments as needed (required) 
  • Ability to work evening, weekend and off hour shifts (required) 

Physical demands, environment and schedule

•    A mix of normal office conditions, outdoors exposed to all weather conditions, in construction areas with uneven surfaces and in areas exposed to loud audible noises
